Connect a camera

Use a supported camera or NVR stream reachable from your assigned edge device or relay. Confirm the stream format and connection URL using your camera vendor’s documentation. Compatibility depends on the camera, network, codec, and deployed worker.

Do not change an encrypted stream to an unencrypted protocol by guessing a different port. Keep camera credentials private and use a dedicated account with the minimum access required.

  1. Create the target area and set its operating hours.
  2. Register the edge device in AI Cameras using organization administrator access.
  3. Add a camera with its name, stream URL, target area, capture interval, and assigned device.
  4. Enable it and verify device health and recent successful measurements.
  5. Review a calibration image and configure exclusion zones.

Each camera needs an explicit registered device assignment. Avoid overlapping views when aggregating counts for one area.

Test realistic lighting, reflections, crowd density, and obstructions. Compare estimates with manual observations before relying on a busyness threshold. Camera placement must respect facility rules and privacy expectations; do not install occupancy cameras in private changing or bathroom areas.

If counts stop, inspect the device health and camera error information. Verify network reachability and credentials locally. A closed operating schedule may intentionally suppress inference. Contact support with the organization ID, camera ID, approximate failure time, and a redacted error. Do not email secrets.
